Technical support

Technical equipment support, with the people who know how to run it.

Camera, lighting, grip, sound, data and the specialist end. Supplied, prepped and crewed for a production, a test day, a training block or a simulation, and quoted in writing against what you actually need.

The margin is asset-locked and funds training places. That is the reason the service exists, and it is the reason the price is a price rather than a favour.

What we cover

By department.

What goes on the quote is the specification for your job. We do not publish a stock list, because the useful question is never what is on a shelf — it is whether the thing that turns up will do the work, with someone beside it who knows it.

Camera

Camera and optics

Bodies, lenses, filtration, monitoring, media and support — digital and film.

Light

Lighting and power

Working lighting for interior and location, with distribution, control and cable.

Grip

Grip and movement

Dollies, track, cranes, stabilised and remote heads, rigging and consumables, with operators where the equipment requires them.

Sound

Production sound

Radio and boom, timecode and sync, with the handover into post accounted for.

Data

DIT and data

On-set colour, look management, offload, backup and the delivery your post house has asked for.

Spec

Specialist

Aerial, high speed, underwater, virtual production and the rest of the specialist end, brought in through the supply chain and quoted on the same piece of paper.

How it works

Enquiry, quote, prep, out, back.

01

Tell us the job

The dates, the departments, what you are shooting and where. If your cinematographer has a list, send it; if not, describe the work and we will build one.

02

A written quote

Scope, days, crew, assumptions and what is excluded. There is no rate card. Nothing is booked until you have said yes in writing.

03

Prep

A prep period with your camera department, in the prep rooms on the lot. Built, checked, tested and signed for before it leaves.

04

Out and back

A signed manifest both ways. You hold your own production insurance covering hired-in equipment.

Daily, weekly and split hire. Crewed or supplied, depending on the item and the job.

Beyond what we hold

If we do not hold it, we are not the obstacle.

We hold enough to run a working unit and teach on it. Beyond that, the useful thing about being on a studio lot and inside the supply chain is that the rest is reachable. Specialist camera, large lighting packages, heavy grip, aerial and underwater, high speed and virtual production come in through suppliers we work with and appear on one quote with one point of contact.

Where another company is better placed to do the job, we say so. There is a directory of rental houses on this site and we point people at it regularly.

Stated up front

Where the lines are.

  • Some items are not offered dry. Where an operator is part of the specification, that is not negotiable
  • We do not supply to individuals without a production behind them
  • We do not quote on equipment we cannot prep, insure and stand behind
  • Equipment is contributed by MR Helix Ltd along with the technical expertise and infrastructure; the margin on its use is asset-locked to community benefit

Where it goes

The same kit teaches on Monday and works on Tuesday.

Technical support sits alongside the training, the test days and the simulations, on the same equipment and with the same crew. That is not a coincidence in the model — it is the model. A commercial day funds a training place, and the training happens on equipment that is currently in use rather than equipment that has been retired into a classroom.
