Bristol City Council's film office, covering location scouting, recces, crew advice and permissions across the city, which holds UNESCO City of Film status. It works closely with The Bottle Yard Studios but is a separate thing: the Film Office is the agency, the studio is a facility.

British Film Institute (BFI) · Filmmakers, exhibitors, audiences and anyone looking for the national picture on funding and skills.

The UK's national body for film and the moving image, distributing National Lottery funding for development, production, audiences, heritage and skills, and setting the structure the regions run through — the seven BFI Skills Clusters and the BFI Film Academy. For an individual, the BFI is the funder of last resort behind most of the schemes on this page rather than a place you train.

A private-sector-led industry body established by the West Midlands Combined Authority to grow the region's creative economy, covering television, games and CreaTech. It leads the BFI West Midlands Skills Cluster as the Skills Accelerator, running roadshows and bootcamps including an art department bootcamp.

Creative UK · Creative businesses seeking investment, and students and freelancers wanting membership.

The merged body formed from Creative England and the Creative Industries Federation, combining policy and advocacy with Creative Growth Finance and equity investment, plus a membership offer including student membership. It also runs Filming in England, whose crew and supplier directories the regional film offices point to.

The Welsh Government's own agency for the creative industries, offering production funding for film, TV, games and animation, location and crew coordination for incoming productions, and guidance on film and TV apprenticeships. It is the government body, not the arm's-length film fund — for development finance you want Ffilm Cymru Wales instead.

The development agency for Welsh film, supported by the BFI, Arts Council of Wales, National Lottery and Welsh Government, covering feature and documentary development and production, cinemas and festivals, the Green Cymru sustainability strand and the Future Producers programme with EAVE. Go here for film development and production money in Wales rather than for crew training.

London's screen agency, a registered charity backed by the Mayor of London, the BFI Lottery Fund and Arts Council England, running the Creative Skills Academy, the Equal Access Network, BFI NETWORK training and mentoring, FLAMIN for artists' moving image, and the Production Finance Market. It leads the BFI Metro London Skills Cluster, which also covers Hertfordshire, Surrey and Buckinghamshire.

Liverpool Film Office · Productions filming across Merseyside and the Liverpool City Region.

Established in 1989 as Europe's first film office and part of Liverpool City Council, covering locations, road closures, traffic coordination and crew connections across the Liverpool City Region. It also administers the Liverpool City Region Production Fund, which has backed Help, Time and This City is Ours.

North East Screen · Crew, companies and new entrants in the North East and Tees Valley.

The screen industries development agency for North East England, funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Tees Valley Combined Authority, combining a film office, the North East Production Fund and business and talent development. Its Crew Academy and Bridge to Industry strands are the entry routes; it is also a Screen Alliance North partner.

Northern Ireland Screen · Producers, crew and new entrants based in Northern Ireland.

The national screen agency for Northern Ireland, funding production, running the Irish Language and Ulster-Scots Broadcast Funds, and operating an unusually deep skills programme — Company Placement Scheme, Director and Producer Shadowing, production, craft and technical traineeships, the Puttnam Scholarship and animation placements. It also leads the BFI Northern Ireland Skills Cluster.

Production Central WM · Productions filming anywhere in the West Midlands, and crew looking for regional work.

The West Midlands production services agency and film office, backed by the West Midlands Combined Authority and partnered with Create Central, handling permits, locations, permissions, road closures and crew connections across Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Dudley. This is the body that replaced Film Birmingham.

Screen Alliance North · People entering or progressing in screen work anywhere in the North of England.

The BFI North of England Skills Cluster, created jointly by Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire, running Connected Access, Connected Campus, Connected Pathways, Connected Development and Connected North. It prioritises applicants from underrepresented groups and lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Screen Berkshire · Berkshire residents at any age and stage wanting into the studios on their doorstep.

The BFI Berkshire Skills for Screen Cluster, running since April 2023 and directed by Resource Productions CIC with the University of Reading, Shadowbox Studios Shinfield, Amazon MGM Studios, Bedlam Film and the Berkshire Film Office. It covers the six Berkshire councils and you must be a Berkshire resident to register for its support, training and work.

Screen Cornwall · Crew and filmmakers in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The screen agency for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, based in Redruth, covering the film office, investment, skills and talent, CreaTech and Cornish-language media through Media Kernewek. Its Production-Ready Pathways strand is aimed at below-the-line entrants and it hosts BFI Film Academy courses for 16 to 25-year-olds.

Screen Manchester · Productions filming in Manchester and crew in the city region.

Manchester City Council's film office, handling filming permits, location approvals and codes of practice, and maintaining location and facilities databases. Entry routes attached to it are production-specific — the Waterloo Road Production Development Trainee Scheme relaunched for 2026/27 — rather than a standing training programme.

Scotland's screen agency, part of Creative Scotland and funded by the Scottish Government and National Lottery, combining production funding, a screen commission and a large skills portfolio including the River City Training Academy, the Outlander Training Programme, the Highlands and Islands Training Programme and a £1.2m Talent Builder initiative. It leads the BFI Scotland Skills Cluster.
