Futures in Film Learn
The part that costs nothing.
Department guides, and the stage you are at, a Careers A–Z, a glossary of what people are saying on set, and a directory of where else to go. Free, open, no account, no email wall.
Why this exists
The information is out there. Finding it is the problem.
There is an enormous amount of good free teaching about this industry, scattered across channels nobody tells you about, in no order, with no way to tell a ninety-second tip from a sixty-minute panel.
So we did the sorting. Everything is reachable two ways — by the department you want to work in, and by where you are standing right now — and everything is labelled free or paid before you click.
It costs nothing and it asks for nothing, so it is there in the weeks when there is no work.
What is in it
Six ways in.

Library
The library
The department guides and five stage pages. Curated video, reading and courses from other people, every entry linked out, labelled free or paid, and credited.

Careers
Careers A–Z
What each grade does, what it is good at, the tools of the trade, who it works with, and every route in — with the degree route marked non-essential.

Glossary
Glossary
What people on set are saying and what they mean. UK terminology, UK grades, linked from every guide in the library.

Explainers
How it all works
How a set works, how a film gets made, how crews are hired, how departments fit together, how the money works, and how to get in.

Directory
The directory
Where else to go: guilds, unions, funders, training providers, screen agencies and support organisations, with one line on each.

AI
Film and digital, as one craft
What AI is doing in each department right now, which tools are worth your time, and where we draw the line.
By where you are
Where people are standing when they arrive.
The library is reachable by craft or by stage. If you do not yet know which department you want, start here instead.
01 · Never been on a set
No kit, no contacts, no idea what the jobs are called. A fortnight’s work, costing nothing.
03 · Building a career
You have a credit and cannot get the third. Rates, tax, and the grade above you.
05 · Running a department
Hiring, budgets, published rates, guild grades and the safety you now sign for.
How we treat other people’s work
We embed and we credit. We never re-host.
Where a film is on somebody’s own platform and they have allowed embedding, we embed it through their player, so the view counts for them and the credit is theirs. Everything else is a link out.
Nobody in the library is a partner, a sponsor or an affiliate of ours, and nobody has paid to be listed. The whole policy is set out once, on the library landing page, rather than repeated on every guide.
The taught side
Where the free material stops.
Everything above is study: the best of what already exists, put in order. The courses are the taught side of the same work — a working package, a schedule that does not wait for you, and somebody senior who stops you at the moment you get it wrong.
Neither half pretends to be the other, and the library is worth a year of your time whether or not you ever come to us.
