Funded places
Funded places.
Futures in Film is a community interest company. The margin on hire, commissioned film, testing and teaching is asset-locked to community benefit, and it funds training places. Those places are limited, they are decided case by case, and nothing on this page is a promise.
Where the money comes from
Who funds this.
Trading first: equipment made available to productions, equipment tested for manufacturers, commissioned training. The equipment is MR Helix’s, made available to the CIC. Then funders who back the organisation itself.

Funding received
Sums we have received, not sums you pay.
Barriers
Discussed case by case, and sometimes with a third-party funder.
A funded place is a place. Anything else that would stop you attending is a separate conversation, had before you commit to anything, and what has been possible for one person is not a promise to the next.
A second route
The ScreenSkills bursary.
ScreenSkills administers bursaries for people training for and working in the UK screen industries: a cash grant toward training, travel, equipment, software and accommodation, UK-wide, 18 and over. It is competitive, applying is not receiving, it is not open to people in full-time or part-time education, it needs weeks of lead time, and the application is yours to write and theirs to decide. A bursary can pay for somebody else’s course as easily as ours.
ScreenSkills is named here as a funder whose bursaries you may be eligible for. It is not a partner of Futures in Film and has not endorsed our courses.
What we ask
What we ask, and what we never ask.
What attending would cost you, why you want to work in this department, and whether anything about the days themselves would be difficult. A few sentences each. Never:

Deciding
How places are decided.
Places go to the people for whom the cost is the difference between coming and not coming, weighted towards the communities and the parts of the country we exist to reach. There are only ever a few of them, and asking is not the same as getting one.
Do this now
Ask. It is one question on a form.
Say on the form what would stop you taking a place. Asking does not affect your chance of getting one.
