Refresher strand. One-day modules for people already working.
You are in the industry, in a grade, and something has moved — a format, a workflow, a piece of kit everybody suddenly expects you to know. These are the days for that.
Outcome
The modules.
Modules are built around what people are being asked for: gimbal and stabilisation work on our own rigs, 35mm loading, AI tools and workflows, and faith-aware production for people running units. For working crew at any grade, and for facilities and productions who book one for a whole team, at Pinewood or on your own floor. Steadicam and virtual production are not on the list, for the reason given below.
Kit
The equipment you will handle.
Whichever package the module needs: the Panavision Millennium XL2 for film loading, MR Helix stabilisation with exoskeletons and wireless wheels, the Scorpio 35 crane and remote heads, lighting and distro, or the LED and camera tracking rig.
The test room at Pinewood is available for modules that are about testing something.
Equipment on a given day depends on what is available that week.
Teaching
Who teaches it.
Working heads of department in the relevant craft, and for the technical modules, the people who built the equipment. Advanced gimbal and camera systems training has run with Jeremy Braben Associate BSC, GBCT.
Rizwan Wadan teaches the stabilisation and 35mm modules.
Practitioners named here have taught or mentored on Futures in Film days. Who is on the floor for a particular day is confirmed when it opens.
Somebody else runs these
These subjects belong to other people.
Steadicam has an established international tier structure with a recognised diploma at the top of it, and virtual production is well served elsewhere. The providers are below.
Tiffen (opens in a new tab) · the official workshop tiers
As Tiffen publishes them: Bronze, two days on Aero and Axis rigs; Silver, three days on M-Series; Gold, five and a half days residential including vehicle platforms. The recognised progression in Steadicam worldwide.
CVP (opens in a new tab) · Bronze, in London
The Steadicam Bronze Workshop at CVP Fitzrovia: CVP lists it as two days, around sixteen to eighteen hours, at £600 including VAT. Continuous assessment with a test piece, and no strict pass or fail.
Optical Support Ltd (opens in a new tab) · from the people who build the rigs
A three-day Steadicam course and a focus pulling course, run by the company that makes and services stabiliser sleds and repairs lenses.
Mo-Sys Academy (opens in a new tab) · camera tracking and ICVFX
Mo-Sys lists courses of three, five, ten and thirteen days covering StarTracker configuration, lens calibration, green screen, AR, and the nDisplay process from Unreal Engine to an LED wall. Manufacturer-level depth, aimed at technicians, engineers and educators, not beginners.
MetFilm School (opens in a new tab) · three days, at Garden Studios
A three-day virtual production short course taught with the team at Garden Studios in London. Garden Studios is the venue; MetFilm School is the provider.
