Pillar 02

Production Simulation and Industry Workflow Practice

A production simulation is a working unit: kit, a call sheet, a turnaround, and consequences when the magazine is not ready. It is the method a test day runs inside, and it is the thing institutions buy. The production simulation technology was developed by MR Helix Ltd; Futures in Film builds on it under agreement.

A Futures in Film production simulation

What a day is

High pressure, on purpose.

01

Prep

Kit is pulled, built and tested, as on any prep day. You do it, in your grade.

02

Call

A call sheet goes out: a schedule, a location, a turnaround. The day starts when it says it starts.

03

Shoot

A scene is shot at working pace. How the unit handles what goes wrong is most of what is taught.

04

Wrap and notes

Kit is checked back in and the day is taken apart: what held, what did not.

Three things at once

One day, three jobs

Kit testing, refresher days and training on the same unit.

One day puts new kit under time pressure, gives working crew a day in a grade they have not yet held, and trains new entrants across camera, grip, lighting, sound and production.

Who teaches

Who teaches.

Working crew, in the grade they teach. They watch, and give notes.

Who this pillar faces

Manufacturers, working crew, new entrants and productions.

Manufacturers with a product to put under pressure. Working crew moving into a grade. New entrants across camera, grip, lighting, sound and production. Productions with a placement trainee to bring up to speed.
