Here are some news from our friends at the British Film Institute:

Director and screenwriter Shyam Benegal is today considered the father of the 'New Wave' in Indian cinema. With a career spanning 50 years, his documentaries as well as his features are the work of a highly accomplished and deeply humanitarian filmmaker, unflinching in his critique of sexual and social inequality.

We are delighted to be able to present a weekend of films celebrating the work of Benegal in June. Screenings include  Bhumik, a powerful exploration of the tragic life of a Bombay studio screen actress staring Smita Patil as well as Junoon, a passionate and violent story set against the turbulent period of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1957. Held in conjunction with the South Asian Cinema Foundation the weekend promises to be  complete with a number of Q+A plus masterclasses.
